Welcome to the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway. Opened in 1903 to link the market town of Welshpool to the rural community of Llanfair Caereinion, this 2 foot 6 inch narrow gauge steam railway now provides a tourist service for all the family and a welcome change from the rush of every day life. Built as a Light Railway to avoid some of the costs of railway construction, the narrow gauge allows for tight curves and steep gradients, enabling the line to follow the contours of the countryside. Most of our trains are steam hauled, either by one of our unique original locomotives or one from abroad. The carriages too are special; those in regular use being from Hungary and Austria with access to the enclosed seating area via an open balcony - a great way to watch the world go by.

We are very excited to welcome back visitors to our historic railway in the Welsh borders, conveniently placed for a visit from the West Midlands.
From the 1st of August, we are offering excursions on seven days a week, four times a day (10:30, 12:10, 13:50 and 15:30).
Passengers will ride on vintage railway carriages from across Europe, with large picture windows and period interiors. You will enjoy an eight mile, 60-minute round trip along our line departing 免费ss加速器 for to Castle Caereinion. You’ll have time to wonder at an amazing steam locomotive, which will be at least 118 years old, and the picturesque scenery surrounding our railway.
We know that lots of potential visitors are facing personal challenges at the moment, so tickets have been priced to allow the greatest number of visitors to enjoy a trip as possible, while also contributing to the charity that runs our railway. Adult tickets are £12, children are £5, families of four are £29 and dogs are £2.50. There is no minimum booking size or amount.
Please note that travel is both ways on the same booked train due to limited capacity and distancing measures.
